Working in partnership with others

We collaborate and work in partnership with patients and other organisations across our policy priorities.

Working with other organisations

Association of Medical Research Charities

The BHF is a member of the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC), which brings together more than 140 health and medical research charities to influence the research environment in the UK. The AMRC also acts as secretariat for the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Medical Research (APPG MR), which facilitates collaboration between parliamentarians and medical research bodies.

European Heart Network

The BHF is part of the European Heart Network, which plays a leading role in the prevention and reduction of heart and circulatory diseases, in particular heart diseases and stroke, through advocacy, networking, education and patient support, so that they are no longer a major cause of premature death and disability throughout Europe.

Healthy Air Campaign

The BHF is part of the Healthy Air Campaign, a coalition of health, transport and environmental charities. The Healthy Air Campaign work together to raise awareness of the health impacts of air pollution, encourage behaviour that helps cut air pollution and exposure to it and persuade all levels of government to take stronger action to protect the public’s health from poor air quality.

National Voices

National Voices (NV) is a coalition of charities that stands for people being in control of their health and care. BHF is one of the many charities which make up the umbrella body representing the patient voice. National Voices support the vital role that the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sector plays in health and care through supporting the adoption and spread of person-centred approaches.

Obesity Health Alliance

The BHF is a founder member of the Obesity Health Alliance (OHA), which brings together over 40 leading charities and medical royal colleges with expertise in tackling overweight and obesity. The goal of the Obesity Health Alliance is to prevent obesity-related ill-health by addressing the influences that lead to excess bodyweight throughout life.

Richmond group

The BHF is one of fourteen charities that make up the Richmond Group of Charities. Working together as a collective voice to better influence health and social care policy; the Richmond Group's aim is to improve the care and support for the 15 million people living with long term conditions.

Smokefree Action Coalition

The BHF are members of the Smokefree Action Coalition (SFAC), a group of over 300 organisations across the UK committed to ending smoking. The Coalition is coordinated by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH). The SFAC’s geographical remit is England for devolved matters such as health, and UK-wide for reserved matters such as tax and illegal tobacco.

Working with patients

All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Heart and Circulatory Diseases

In the past, the BHF provided secretariat support to the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Heart and Circulatory Diseases. The APPG exists to provide a forum for parliamentarians to work with experts across the health sector, patients and organisations to improve health outcomes for people living with heart and circulatory diseases in the UK. In 2019, we worked with the APPG to release a report Putting patients at the heart of artificial intelligence.

Patient data panel

The British Heart Foundation, in collaboration with Cancer Research UK, co-manages a patient data panel consisting of 12 patients. Initially formed to help inform our responses to NHS opt-out enquiries, the panel has been instrumental in guiding several initiatives at the BHF, and has been recognised more widely for its expertise after being consulted by several external organisations.
